Public transit should serve the public. It shouldn’t be an afterthought for politicians or a profit-driver for corporations. You should be able to count on public transit to get you where you need to go, whether it’s your job, a doctor’s appointment, to see your friends and family, or back home safely after a night out. Suburban and rural communities must have access to public transportation just like urban centres.
Instead of making your commute easier, Liberal and Conservative politicians have been giving away our transit infrastructure to private investors who are making a big profit and driving up prices. Public-private partnerships have spiked, while workers are getting paid less and passenger service is getting worse.
That’s why we need a national plan to keep Canadians moving. This national transit plan would improve rider experience, while boosting convenience and efficiency. It would also support good-paying union municipal jobs, a made-in-Canada procurement strategy, and help us meet our ambitious climate goals.
We can get Canada moving again. This is the plan to do it.
