On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, I honour the Palestinian-Canadian community and Palestinian people around the world.
Statement on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
In the face of ongoing genocide and occupation, of dehumanization and state violence, of anti-Palestinian racism and genocide denial, the resilience and spirit of Palestinians shines through.
For over two years, I have called for action from the Canadian government to end the ongoing genocide - real action that Canada must take to uphold our obligations under international law: Actions like an arms embargo, sanctions on Netanyahu and his genocidal cabinet, and an end to the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement.
Despite the “ceasefire”, Israel’s attacks on the people of Gaza are ongoing. Palestinians in Gaza survive in rain-soaked tents, their homes, hospitals, schools and universities destroyed. Donald Trump and his cruel cohort of decision-makers scheme over the future of Gaza, while settler violence increases in the West Bank.
This is not peace. This is not justice.
Despite finally recognizing the State of Palestine, the Liberal government refuses to take the necessary steps to end the horror. They have abandoned Palestinian-Canadians and millions of others who believe that every person deserves dignity and security.
Palestinian human rights are human rights.
Today, I think of olive trees in the West Bank, of poppies that will bloom again in Gaza, of children flying kites on the beach.
Solidarity. Free Palestine.

Tonight I voted no to the Liberal budget. This was not a decision I took lightly. Canadians are facing a cost-of-living crisis, communities are struggling with underfunded services, and people have been clear that they expect Parliament to deliver real, practical solutions. I reviewed this budget closely to see whether it met that test.
